It has been great to start 2021 with a couple of physical gatherings, giving the club to present trophies and prizes for 2020 competitions and the end of year awards and the chance for members to reconnect face to face. We started the year with a social gathering/awards event outside the club rooms and then our first activity for many months with members meeting at the Kennington Reservoir. We saw some great photos shared later on the social media platforms the club uses. Both events had a great turn out, demonstrating member’s enthusiasm for gathering and spending time together as a club. The committee has been busy planning more face to face events for the months ahead which you will see below.

First judging night for 2021 – Tuesday Feb 9

Club President Graeme has communicated to members by email outlining plans for the first judging night – explaining the limit on attendees in the main part of the club rooms. Please refer to that email which was sent on 30.1.21 for details.

We will be joined by judge David Skinner for the night. We will meet at the club rooms at the usual time. Members must wear masks and practice social distancing. We will also be asking all members to register their attendance as per government Covid requirements. We also invite members to bring their own supper for post judging social time.

For members who have submitted print entries, please bring those prints to display to the club rooms at 7.00 pm. The judge will view the prints and finalise his scoring.

February 9 is also the due date for the first AV competition of the year. Entries should be submitted via We Transfer to Matt Oliver.

Activity night – Tuesday February 16

Our next activity night is a photo shoot at the Garden of Future in White Hills. We will meet at 7.30 pm and members are invited to share two of their best images on Cluster. We now have an Activity Night page on Cluster for this purpose.

March: full of fun events

The club has a lot going on in March. It is really exciting to convey all of the events and activities planned after almost of year of limited options.

  • March 9 – first AV judging night for the year. Our judge will be Ron Cork and this night will be held via Zoom. This is also the night that entries are due for the April print/digital competition. The set subject is “Creative”.
  • Sunday March 14 – we will have a social get together/photo shoot at Melville Caves/Mt Kooyoora State park. Meet at park at 10.30 am, bring your own picnic lunch. Please note this is replacing the bus trip that is listed on the syllabus.
  • Tuesday March 16 Activity night – we will undertake an Astrophotography session at the St Martin’s Church at 2 River Road, Muskerry. The plan is to meet at the church at 7.30 p.m, however, if members require a lift they should contact Graeme who will work on car pooling arrangements.
  • Tuesday March 23 – Club Dinner – we are returning to the National Hotel, Golden Square, for the club dinner, another great chance to catch up. The booking is for 6.30.

Well that is quite a list. How good is it to place items in the diary and have plans to look forward to.

Unfortunately not all events are going ahead. The Bendigo Easter Festival has been cancelled for 2021 due to Covid. This means the club won’t go ahead with the exhibition and fundraiser.

Club membership subscriptions

A reminder to the members who have not yet paid for their 2021 membership that subscriptions ($50) are now due. They can be paid in cash at the club meeting or a bank transfer.

Competition opportunities

The club received notification of the Silver Linings awards through AIPP. The competition is open to AIPP and the general public. There are 11 categories including Home, Away, Shades of Grey, Natural World, Stories and Places. You can find more details on the AIPP website:
