It is incredible to think we are now in the last few months of 2020. What a year it has been. The camera club has spent most of the year meeting virtually, learning new technology and finding creative ways to connect and share our photography. Hopefully with the improving weather and easing of restrictions members have been able to get our and about and enjoy a wider range of photography options. This newsletter outlines some important information about upcoming events, some of which you will receive updates by email in the coming weeks.

Tuesday October 13 2020

This is the final digital judging night of the year. We will meet by Zoom, with the Zoom link to come by email. This is also the night to submit your entries for the final AV competition of the year. A reminder that the time limit for the AV is 3 minutes and 21 secs.

Tuesday October 20

This is our activity night and the chance for the members who were successful at the judging night, with a placing or a first, to share the story of the photo. This is the second time we have had this activity. Winners and place getters will be given a few minutes during the Zoom meeting to reflect on these questions:

  • What inspired you to take this photo?
  • How was the image achieved?
  • What equipment did you use?
  • What post-processing did you undertake?
  • Anything else you want to share

You may also decide to make adjustments to the image based on the judges feedback and you can then share the before and after versions.

Tuesday October 27 – submit your entries for the End of Year Awards Night

This is an important date – the final night to submit your entries for the end of the year award night. As Graeme has already conveyed we will run this event as a virtual event. An email was sent in late September from Graeme including all key information but here is some of the most important information you need to consider:

Key things to consider are:

  1. Any entry for ‘end-of-year’ must have been previously submitted during 2020 for one of the 5 bi-monthly competitions and/or AV competitions. Any image and/or AV received that has not previously been submitted during 2020 will be rejected by the Competition Steward.
  2. Members who have submitted a ‘Print’ image during 2020 (February & April) can also enter this work as a digital image in the end-of-year competition. This is to ensure such members are not disadvantaged for end-of-year competition and annual awards.
  3. Unlike other competitions, there are 5 unique categories that members can enter their work for:
  •  Landscape;
  • Portrait;
  • Creative;
  • Nature; and
  • Photojournalism

4.     Members can submit a maximum of 5-images to this end-of-year competition which will be considered by the external judge against one of the above categories.

You can submit your entries in the usual way via the club website and entries are now open.

Tuesday November 10

This is the final judging night for Audio Visuals for the year.

Inter club Zoom meeting

Bendigo Camera Club are joining up with the Macedon Ranges Photographic Society for an inaugeral inter club meeting and the chance to share some of our images. We will have this inter club meeting on Monday November 16.

The plan for the meeting is for 10 members from each club to share 1 image each. Members will be asked to speak to their image for a maximum of 5 minutes. Members can use the same set of questions we are using for activity nights (see above) to prepare.

If you are interested in submitting photos you will need to do so by November 2, with more details about how to do to be communicated. Usual competition rules will apply and you will also be asked to ensure the image is less that 2 MB. This will help to minimise Zoom time lag.

This is a chance to share inspiration and for members to have the chance to share with others outside our club. It should be a fun event.
