Use a slower shutter speed to capture a sense of motion in a moving object.

There are two ways to do this.

  • Blur Blurred Subject With Background In Focus (requires a tripod) – our challenge for LAST week.
  • Blurred Background With Subject In Focus (the panning technique) – this will be our challenge for THIS week.

Thanks to Will for these suggestions.

There have been some excellent examples of blurred subjects uploaded to our cluster gallery for the past few challenges:

Similar to last week’s challenge, you need to use a slow shutter speed. However, instead of using a tripod, you’ll be panning your camera along the directional path of your subject.

The Digital Photography School tutorials from last week also cover panning:

How to upload your image

You have until next Tuesday to upload your image to Cluster. Members have all been sent an invitation to join and most have done so already. If you have any trouble feel free to email Esther. We also encourage you to leave encouraging comments for other members.

We’d love your suggestions/requests for future challenges. Please leave them as a comment under the challenge notification in Cluster or Facebook.

We will also post this competition on our “Friends of BCC” Facebook group so our friends can still participate by sharing their images on Facebook.

The next challenge…

Use panning to keep your subject in focus. There will be tips on this technique next week.
