Tonight Boyd presented a demonstration on mat cutting.

Supplies:

  • Mat cutter – available at the clubrooms during any meeting
  • Useful tools such as double-sided tape and blades can be purchased economically at the Reject Shop or discount craft store (such as the one at The Marketplace), and you might also find a self healing mats there
  • Steel ruler from Bunnings
  • Mat board – available in art stores such as Arthouse Direct (159 McCrae St)
  • Plain paper to back the photo. You can use foam core for a more professional look.

Here are some excellent instructions that are similar to what Boyd presented – courtesy of a club in New Zealand: Matting and Mounting Prints
Here are some YouTube videos to help:

We also discussed what people do with their prints after the competition. There were a variety of ideas:

  • leave mounted and store in a cupboard
  • remove from the mat and reuse the mat for another entry
  • store the photo in a display book or archival scrapbooking album (with 12″x12″ sleeves)
  • cut into strips for bookmarks.
