Our club has a long history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cBendigo Amateur Photographic Association (Club)\u201d was first established in 1894 (source: British Journal Photographic Almanac 1905 *unverified). The first verified record is from a report of the first AGM in 1896 where it is stated that the Bendigo Amateur Photographic Association was inaugurated on 22 October 1895.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Association’s purpose was to provide a supportive and social atmosphere in which like-minded members may learn, improve and share their experience of photography with others. Regular meetings were held at the Bendigo School of Mines in McCrae Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of Federation (1901) the Club boasted more than 20 active members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1903, the Club finally opened their doors to allow women to become active members. *unverified<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Club continued to operate until 1914 at which time Australia agreed to support England in fighting the Germans as part of World War 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is little available history of what happened to the Club from this date until the it re-formed as the Bendigo Photographic Society according to the ledger, and in 1954 it had 16 members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 1978 the club changed name to Bendigo Camera Club, moving to its present location at the Rowing Clubrooms in 1980.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club was incorporated some time between 1981 and 1991.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Club continues to grow with about 70 active members participating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
